Since joining Not Your Mother’s Haircare as a Social Media Intern in July 2023, I’ve had the opportunity to grow alongside the brand. When I began, our TikTok following was at 75K, and nearly a year later, we’ve grown to over 280K followers.
My core responsibilities include:
- Assisting with content creation for main Instagram and TikTok
- Managing our Facebook page, NYM Canada Instagram, and NYM Mexico Instagram
- Trend forecasting and pitching video ideas tailored to Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences
- Supporting community management by interacting with our audience through comments, DMs, tagged videos, and mentions
- Helping prepare bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly social media performance reports
- Contributing to month-by-month content strategies aligned with product drops, seasonal moments, and brand goals.
From July 2024 - October 2025 I created and published 261 posts across Instagram and TikTok for Not Your Mother’s Haircare. These posts collectively generated over 1o million impressions and almost 600k engagements.
This content included a mix of:
-Trend-driven TikToks and reels tailored to Gen Z and Gen Alpha
- Educational and product-focused TikToks and in-feed Instagram posts
- Campaign support for major launches, sales, and partnerships with retailers like Ulta, Target, and Walmart.
One of my favorite initiatives during my internship with Not Your Mother’s Haircare has been enhancing our TikTok community engagement strategy. By focusing on thoughtful, timely, and on-trend comments, I’ve helped give the brand a more personal and relatable voice, while also boosting visibility and reach.
Using fun, culturally relevant phrases and responses, I regularly engaged with both influencers and everyday users, jumping into comment sections where our products were mentioned, or where our audience was simply hanging out. This strategy not only made the brand feel more approachable, but also helped us strengthen brand recognition, build relationships, and contribute to a growing, highly engaged community.
